ETHNOGRAPHY

Ethnography studies have as their purpose the understanding and interpretation of cultural phenomena and dynamics in social realities, in which the anthropological discipline has its center. Since written documentation on these cultures is often scarce or nonexistent, objects become a primary source of information about society and the culture that produced them. Artifacts may have been created with purely functional purposes or they may represent the possessor's social status, giving prestige, providing control or invoking spiritual responses.
